Spectroscopy - MJH Life Sciences

While working at MJH Life Sciences, I worked on the Spectroscopy brand following its acquisition by the company. After gaining experience with the publication, I led its rebrand and design evolution. The goal was to update the visual identity to better align with other modern publications in the industry. While maintaining the scientific integrity of the content, we wanted the design to feel more contemporary to reflect MJH Life Sciences’ high standard for clean, sophisticated scientific publishing.

The Challenge
The rebrand of Spectroscopy needed to modernize the existing identity while preserving its core recognition. It was important to communicate that the brand remained the same trusted resource now that is was under MJH Life Sciences. The design had to reflect the high standards of excellence MJH is known for, while also accommodating the technical nature of the publication. That included creating layouts with ample space for dense content, large tables, and detailed scientific figures, while still making room for advertorial placements.
The Solution/Final Deliverables
I began the rebrand by designing a new logo that retained recognizable elements from the original while giving it a more modern feel. I collaborated with sales, editorial, design, and scientific teams to ensure the new layout supported detailed technical content without letting design overwhelm it. Key editorial components were preserved and combined thoughtfully, with space allocated for advertorials and sales-driven content. I worked on designs for the main publication as well as supplemental issues.
Throughout the process, I led design presentations with the Spectroscopy team, including members who had worked on the publication prior to its acquisition by MJH. The final design was clean, modern, and positioned the brand more effectively for sales. The updated visual identity extended to marketing materials, the website, and other assets. I also created custom spotlight article layouts, anniversary seals, and a podcast logo for Analytically Speaking.
