Meatloaf Beatloaf
January 2019 - June 2019
I illustrated Meatloaf Beatloaf, the debut children’s book by author Kimberly Daley, which was a fun, imaginative story about a boy with endless excuses for avoiding meatloaf. The illustrations brought his world to life and included hidden, personal touches for the author and her family. I also designed promotional materials, including a character doll and event flyers for library readings.

The Challenge
The author had a strong concept for the story but needed support in shaping it into a fully illustrated children’s book. Once the manuscript was written, we needed to map out the story visually, incorporate personal touches like hidden family references, and plan how the book would be published and promoted.
The Solution/Final Deliverables
Working closely with the author, I helped develop the book map, sketched concepts, and brought the characters to life through digital illustration spread by spread. Many of the characters were inspired by her real family members, which added a personal and heartfelt layer to the story. We made sure each illustration captured the tone and humor of the narrative while subtly including these personal elements. Along with the finished book, I also created promotional materials, including a character doll and flyers for library reading events.
