Raise Your Voice for Courtney
June 2020 - December 2020
Raise Your Voice for Courtney was Kimberly Daley’s second children’s book that I had the opportunity to illustrate. The story follows a brave little girl who, after being told time and again that no one could hear her, learns to raise her voice and finally be heard.

The Challenge
Many of the characters were based on real family members, so it was important to capture not just their likeness, but their personalities as well. Unlike the first book, Meatloaf Beatloaf, the author wanted a more minimalist illustration style that focused on spot illustrations to emphasize key details. The goal was to visually support the story of a brave young girl learning to raise her voice and be heard, while keeping the artwork clean and impactful.
The Solution/Final Deliverables
Working closely with the author, I helped develop the book map, sketched concepts, and brought the characters to life through digital illustration spread by spread. I illustrated a series of vibrant, expressive spot illustrations that brought emotional depth to the story while maintaining a simplified visual approach. Each character was carefully designed to reflect their real-life inspiration, and the visuals were crafted to highlight the empowering message of the book. The final product was a published children’s book with bright, colorful artwork meant to inspire young readers to speak up and use their voices.
